Samba3 from SMBUp or SMB2 from Apple), not both at the same time. Given Apple is moving to replace AFP with SMB2, I can't say this is a great situation since you can only run one or the other (i.e. In other words, as far as I can tell, you still need SMBUp to use XBMC Eden from a remote device to talk to Mavericks with the SMB protocol. My copy of Frodo, however DOES *NOT* work) I just tried it and "Eden" still works in Mavericks. Newer versions of XBMC might work with Mavericks (although I've read some reports that you need a nightly version of XBMC to use it ON Mavericks period. I get a "broken pipe" error if I try to use XBMC Eden on my Gen1 AppleTV with Mavericks as the server (That is the last version that still works on my Gen 1 AppleTV units without having to use a USB flash drive to boot the thing or face losing my AppleTV Software on the main unit since anything beyond Eden requires LINUX on AppleTV Gen1 to function and it replaces the entire OS). So far, it looks like re-installing SMBUp has gotten rid of the lag, but it's pretty early to be sure.
ALTERNATIVE TO SMBUP MAC OS X
I have tested this Mac OS X SMB Fix under Yosemite 10.10.2, with XMBC/Kodi as a client on an Android device, and it works great.

Is a free application that replaces the Apple SMB implementation with the Open Source Samba version.
ALTERNATIVE TO SMBUP HOW TO
Otherwise, I wouldn't need SMBUp in the first place. How to install SMBUp Installing SMBUp is pretty simple, however configuration got me confused initially. They remove legacy support that works and the replacement doesn't work right. Progress should not mean BREAKING everything that came before, but that seems par for the course anymore.

It's a shame networking seems to be getting worse over time. I have no idea whether the SMB2 support in Mavericks will work with XBMC or not. Touch device users, explore by touch or with swipe gestures. When autocomplete results are available use up and down arrows to review and enter to select. I've just re-installed SMBUp and I'll continue to monitor whether anything improved or not, but I'm under the impression 10.8.5 screwed something up (10.8.2 - 10.8.4 still behaved fine with it). A quick guide on how to install SMBUp as a Mac OS X SMB Fix for those whod like to share their Mac files as a SMB (Windows) share. I also seem to get more "buffering" glitches than before like the information isn't being sent in a timely manner to the unit.
ALTERNATIVE TO SMBUP UPDATE
Now I get it for no apparent reason since 10.8.5 was installed. 01090 is the same but also v Samba solves at least the SMB problems Python Bip39 We successfully recreated the Catalina SMB disconnection issue by playing multiple streams of 4K ProRes 422HQ in Final Cut X I sure hope someone is able to update SMBUp to become a 64-bit app. I used to only get that error when my external media drive was asleep. Trying to load the directory again gets the correct result, but this error seems to come up often now. Has anyone else noticed problems with Samba via SMBUp after the 10.8.5 update? XBMC on two different AppleTV units both now give a lot of "Operation Timed Out" and "Could not connect to remote share" errors since the update here.
